HOSTING OF A DELEGATION OF PROSPECTIVE INVESTORS FROM NIGERIA AND THE TANZANIA-NIGERIA BUSINESS FORUM
The Minister of State, President’s Office – Planning and Investment, Prof. Kitila Mkumbo, has said that Nigerian billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote still has significant opportunities to expand his investments in Tanzania, particularly in the energy and fertilizer manufacturing sectors, as the Government continues discussions on his potential investment in strategic projects.
Speaking after leading a delegation of ministers and deputy ministers who visited Dangote’s industrial facilities in Nigeria, Prof. Mkumbo said Tanzania is continuing to improve its investment environment in order to attract large-scale capital that can add value to the country’s resources and accelerate industrial growth.
“Dangote still has significant opportunities to continue investing in Tanzania, particularly in the energy and fertilizer manufacturing sectors, and discussions are ongoing on other areas of strategic investment,” said Prof. Mkumbo.
He said the Government is still engaged in discussions with Dangote regarding investment in a crude oil refinery project, which was previously proposed to be established in Tanga Region. However, Dangote has now expressed interest in investing in a similar project in the Lamu area of Kenya.
According to Prof. Mkumbo, the visit by the Tanzanian leaders to Nigeria was aimed at learning from the experience of Dangote’s large-scale industrial developments and following up on the implementation of agreements reached between Dangote and President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
He said the Government will continue to work with both local and international investors in implementing major strategic projects aimed at creating employment opportunities, strengthening energy security, and adding value to raw materials produced in the country.
