The Resurgent Tanzanian Dream: Unleashing Economic Growth through Strategic Investments

In the period of January 2021 to June 2023 TIC has registered about 16 strategic projects with a value of 2.91 billion US dollars where the projects are expected to create more than 45,000 jobs.

The TIC Executive Director, Mr. Gilead Teri said this in Dar es Salaam on 17th July, 2023 when addressing the Tanzania Editors Forum and reporters on the achievements recorded by the Centre from January 2021 to June 2023.

He said that from January 2021 to June 2023, TIC has registered a total of 778 projects. 256 projects in 2021 which created 52,846 jobs and the capital value of the projects are US$ 3,786.75 Million. In 2022, 293 projects were registered and created 40,889 jobs with US$ 4,537.70 Million and from January 2023 to June 2023, 31,647 employment were created and capital value of US$ 2,208.14 Million.

“Registration of Projects from January 2021 - June 2023 have been useful to the nation as they have reduced unemployment problem by creating 125,382 new jobs and the value of the projects is 10,532 million US dollars where foreign and domestic capital has been invested” said Teri

He also mentioned that TIC have increased the efficiency to follow up and visit projects not only by phone calls but also going physically to the project sites.

“We have five Zonal Offices and we have appointed fast young managers who are going to help and resolve investors' disputes including cooperating more with investors” he added.

He also mentioned that, from March 2023 to June 2023, the centre has developed a modern way to attract investors, including increasing efforts to reach local investors by visiting and educating them on the benefits of registering their projects with TIC, as well as participating in many economic and investment conferences and exhibitions, both domestic and foreign, to attract more investors.

“Our goal is to attract investments worth 2 billion US dollars per year and to continue with modern methods in attracting investments, by using LinkedIn and virtual meetings.  Our 10000-day (3 years) strategy includes attracting investments in both traditional and new sectors” said Teri.

He further sited on investments on sugar projects in the country (Bagamoyo Sugar, Kigoma Sugar and the expansion of Kilombero Sugar) and insisted that, by 2024 not to have a shortage of sugar in the country, we are counting on the investments we have attracted so far, from the end of the year Tanzania will not have a demand for sugar from abroad, we will have a surplus of sugar that we will be able to sell.

The increase of Tanzanians in the projects that we are currently registering at TIC is large, so there is an awareness of Tanzanians to enter into joint ventures, there is an awareness of Tanzanians to register new projects, but there is also an increase and a great awareness of foreign investor’s projects.
